A poem by one of my favorites. Billa Judson

Fishing

Standing on the shore I cast
Out among the reeds

Each cast out
Each draw back

I wonder if I might need a boat
To get to the place

A boat might help
Fool the fish to thinking
That what I have
Is what it is meant to be

I could move from one pool
To another always finding
Where the fish lie
Always catching

On a boat I sit casting
One side then the other
A boat I found
Or borrowed or rented
For the day to fish

Bringing it closer to the shore
Just close enough to be

Where I know the fish are
There in the reeds

As I drift I think if only
I could stay here in this spot

It would be easier I think
If the boat were fixed in one place

Like on an island

Or on the shore.
